7 gifts any lucky hunter would want under the tree

Black Friday is upon us, but the last place any hunter wants to be in the middle of the season is a blasted shopping mall! If there’s shopping to be done that day, it’ll be accomplished online from a “connected” tree stand or duck blind. There are even gloves now with fingertips that will operate a touchscreen, so you don’t have to freeze your fingers by baring your hands to shop. Shop if you must, but stay in the stand!

Need some ideas for the fellow hunters on your gift list, or better yet, some items to include in yours? Here are a few suggestions in a wide range of price categories.

SEVEN GIFTS ANY LUCKY HUNTER WANTS UNDER THE TREE

Black Friday is upon us, but the last place any hunter wants to be in the middle of the season is a blasted shopping mall! If there’s shopping to be done that day, it’ll be accomplished online from a “connected” tree stand or duck blind. There are even gloves now with fingertips that will operate a touchscreen, so you don’t have to freeze your fingers by baring your hands to shop. Shop if you must, but stay in the stand!

Need some ideas for the fellow hunters on your gift list, or better yet, some items to include in yours? Here are a few suggestions in a wide range of price categories.

1) Buck Woodsman Knife

There is no more classic Christmas gift for the young hunter than a fixed blade knife, and no more classic choice than a Buck Woodsman. The 4-inch stainless steel blade is perfectly sized and shaped for handling field dressing and skinning chores on any white-tailed deer. Features include the black phenolic handle and polished aluminum butt and finger guard. Comes with an equally classic all-leather sheath. You can give this knife proudly assured it’s made in the USA by Buck Knives craftsmen. This gift-of-a-lifetime knife is just $59.99.

2) Hunter Specialties Scent-A-Way Tek 4 Clothing for Women

Despite advances in recent years, it can still be difficult for women to find fitting, comfortable hunting clothing that performs as well as men’s gear. That’s especially true when it comes to scent control garments. For this Christmas, Hunter’s Specialties Scent-A-Way Tek 4 comes through. They offer a complete line of women’s base layer clothing, in a variety of weights, incorporating state-of-the-science silver technology to permanently control human odor caused by bacteria. The silver is woven into the fibers so it lasts the life of the garment no matter how much you wear it or wash it. The Scent-A-Way Line also includes unisex face masks, gloves, hats and more. Prices range for various garments from $14.99 – $59.99.

3) Zeiss Victory HT 10×42 Binoculars

If you’re going to dream for Christmas, dream big! The $2,299 price tag may seem steep, butthese Zeiss binocs are definitely a you-get-what-you-pay-for proposition. With these binoculars you’ll never need another set of hunting binos the rest of your life. Most premium binoculars tout 90 percent light transmission. The Victory HT’s legitimately boast 95% transmission. Five percent may not sound like a lot, but when that trophy buck or bull is hanging on the edge of the timber in the last minute of legal shooting, it makes all the difference.

4) Real Avid Gun Tool

For the firearms hunter and shooter, it’s like carrying a workbench in your pocket, range bag or daypack. The Gun Tool features 18 different mission-specific tools for handling common firearms field maintenance issues. Included are a universal choke wrench for every gauge, punches, hex wrenches, driver bits, drift pins, and even a claw point knife blade perfect for opening boxes of clay targets. The Gun Tool is $24.99 as well (but notice the decimal point) so it’s a perfect stocking stuffer for every shooter on your Christmas list.

5) ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellants

Just because the bugs aren’t out there right now doesn’t mean they won’t be come turkey season. They will be back with a vengeance. Every hunter (every outdoors person, for that matter) needs a ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellant Appliance … preferably several. They’ve become like microwave ovens and the internet; how did we survive before we had them? At just $24.99 to $29.99 the ThermaCELL makes a great gift for anyone who goes outdoors, which means pretty much everyone! And if the outdoor folk on your list already have their own ThermaCELL units, then refill packs are always appreciated

6) Birchwood Casey Darkotic Splattering Targets

Sighting-in can get boring for even the most veteran hunters and shooters among us. Spice up the adventure of every trip to the range with Birchwood Casey Darkotic Targets. There are a dozen designs from which to choose, but each is in beautiful full-color with excitingly creepy, but non-gruesome subjects. Every hit produces an easy-to-see white halo against a dark background. Multiple aiming points make for precision, engaging practice. Prices range from $9.97 to $12.99.

7) onXmaps Hunt Maps

This is the absolute definition of “the greatest things come in the smallest packages.” The tiny Hunt Map chip added to your mapping GPS unit instantly turns it into one of your most powerful hunting tools. Choose between maps for individual states that provide detailed information on private land ownership, or maps for clusters of states which clearly outline public vs private land holdings, but without details on specific landowners. Both versions add tremendous confidence in your hunting because you know precisely where the public/private boundaries are. Each chip is $99.99.
